Erik van der Velde was born in the South of The Netherlands, close to Zundert where Van Gogh was born. When he was 10 years old he visited the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. Blown away by many of Van Gogh’s masterpieces he decided to save money to be able to buy a real Van Gogh one day. Just like Van Gogh he decided to chase his dreams. 

There is quite a chance Erik will never own a real Van Gogh. Like Van Gogh never achieved the success he wanted. Trying hard can lead to a beautiful journey though. 

So what would be the best alternative to a real Van Gogh as long as you can’t afford one? A hand-painted reproduction in oil on canvas! 

Erik founded Van Gogh Studio in 1997. Based in Amsterdam, very close to the Van Gogh Museum, Erik and artists have the chance to learn from the master and see every detail of Vincent’s brushstrokes. Discover how his colors mix on the canvas. Be amazed how Van Gogh’s pace of painting leads to his characteristic tile like style of post-impressionism. 

Thanks to Van Gogh Studio thousands of people all over the world now enjoy a real painting very close to an original Van Gogh. Not like a print, but with real oily brushstrokes on real canvas. A painting that carries the soul of a real artist, a true fan of Vincent van Gogh. 

And perhaps it’s better if Erik can never own a real Van Gogh. So Van Gogh’s masterworks can stay in museums to inspire as many people as possible to also chase their dreams.
